Homebrew competition rules
Entries will be taken
1. Thursday April 15 after 4:00 pm and Friday April 16th before 5pm or after 7pm
Not during happy hour please it’s too busy.
2. Please make the bottles as plain and unmarked as possible,
Just a label with the style of beer on it
3. For each beer, 2-12oz. bottles or 1-16 to 25 oz bottle should be enough for judging
4. Bart and Urby’s staff will take you name and info on an entry form and place your beer in a brown bag and numbered according to category.
5. The bottles will be stored in our beer cooler so if there is any specific storage info, please inform us as you bring in your entries.
6. The styles that will be judged are:
a. Pale ales
b. IPA’s
c. Stouts/Porters
d. Wheat Beers
e. Fruit beers (include your fruited wheat beers here)
f. Belgian Style Ales
g. Nut browns
h. Experimental, combination, or strange brews
i. Strong Ale (barely wines, scotch ales, old ales)
j. ESB’s or other bitters
h. Lagers- I put this category in but I am not sure how many home brewers brew
lagers so it will be a large general category
We will judge the beers according to the following:
( We will keep it as simple as possible this first contest):
1. Aroma
2. Appearance
3. Taste
4. Finish
We will give ribbons for 1st to 3rd in each category and the grand prize for the best overall beer will be a choice of a sixtle or Breaker Beer or a $50 Bart and Urby’s Gift Certificate.
We will probably have other t-shirts and small prizes but don’t quote me on that.
Entry fees:
If you are coming to the beer dinner, then you get 2 free entries in any category.
If you are not attending the dinner (which you will miss out on a ton of great food and beer) you’re entries will be $5 per beer to help defray the cost of the prize!
